Nairobi
Explore Nairobi. Giraffe Manor which is quite unlike anywhere else in the world. This luxury boutique hotel is located within a small wildlife sanctuary in a leafy suburb of Nairobi and is home to a herd of Rothschild’s giraffes who roam freely around the grounds, (alongside several warthog families!) Guests can experience getting up close and personal with giraffe like nowhere else in the world* – don’t be alarmed if they make an appearance at your breakfast table by popping their heads through the window. The Giraffe Centre next door to the manor is great for learning all about the conservation of the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe in Kenya. There are lots of places nearby to indulge your shopping desires and purchase unique gifts from talented local artisans and designers.
Laikipia
Siruai Expedition Camp offers a traditional Africa safari camp and wild safari experience, enabling you to feel immersed in nature without compromising on comfort. Enjoy the romance of sleeping under canvas in the Kenyan wilderness, beneath the stars. Bath using a traditional ‘bucket’ shower and take time to relax around an open campfire at night, listening to the sounds of the African wilderness. The camp boasts spectacular views over the vast Laikipia plains and Mount Kenya, and great game viewing opportunities, including a chance to track the elusive and endangered African wild dog. When not out viewing elephants, lions, Grevy’s zebra and other game, take a walk to explore the rocky ridge lines and winding river valleys in the area. Kayaking down the Ewaso Narok River and breakfasting beside hippo pools are some of the unforgettable memories you will make during your stay at Siruai. The freedom to walk, kayak and simply explore nature at your own pace is what really makes Siruai Expedition Camp such a special Africa safari camp. With no permanent structures, no internet and no other visitors in the area, you will find it to be a liberating retreat into the wilderness.
Laikipia
Located on a 45,000 acre private ranch, Solio Lodge is one of the best places in the world to see rhinos. Founded in 1970 as the world’s first private rhino sanctuary, it is now home to over 200 rhinos (black and white) and game drives over the open plains can lead to sightings of up to fifty at a time, which is an astonishing sight to behold. Guests can enjoy morning and afternoon game drives, with great opportunities to spot prides of lion, leopard, and buffalo, to name but a few. Solio is a haven of luxury and tranquillity, with homegrown goodness from the lodge’s own organic herb and veggie garden on offer every mealtime, spa treatments and massages available in your room and a serene garden from which to sit back and enjoy the bird life and views of Mount Kenya. If you are feeling active, there is horse riding available at the lodge, as well as guided game walks. Helicopter trips to the top of Mount Kenya and trout fishing excursions to the Aberdare National Park are also fun activities on offer here.
Masai Mara
Tucked in a remote corner of Africa’s most famous safari region, Sala’s Camp offers spectacular game viewing opportunities in the heart of the immense Mara-Serengeti ecosystem. Nestled amongst trees at the confluence of two rivers, the area is teeming with wildlife and you can enjoy regular sightings of the resident big cats. Spot ‘the big five’ ‘the little five’ and ‘the ugly five’ on exhilarating morning and afternoon game drives. Cool off in your private plunge pool after the day’s explorations or simply relax in the hammock on your deck before sharing stories around the campfire in the evening. Fine dining, exceptional hospitality and intimate luxury will characterise your experience at Sala’s Camp.
